A father who was taken into custody on Thursday after his toddler died in a hot car has been released while police continue to investigate the death of the young boy.
Police say the boy, 3, was found unresponsive in the car, which had been parked on Railway Parade in Glenfield in Sydney's south-west.
On Friday morning, flowers, candles and toys were left near the location where the child died, with heartfelt messages, including: "Taken too soon", "You will be missed", "See you one day", and "Rest in peace little one".
Officers say they were told the child had been left inside throughout the day as outside temperatures reached 34 degrees.
